BILLY NAME Rare Signed Editions
Billy Name (1940-2016) was an artist, lighting designer and photographer best known for ‘Silvering’ Andy Warhol’s Factory in the 1960s. In 1964 Warhol gave Name a camera which he used to document the day to day happenings at the Silver Factory for the rest of the decade. Name captured nearly every major event around Warhol in the 1960s including the filming of countless movies and “Screen Tests” and the creation of paintings. Among the many figures that Name captured to film are Edie Sedgwick, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Nico, John Cale, The Velvet Underground, Jane Holzer, Brigid Berlin, Betsey Johnson, Gerard Malanga, Bibbe Hansen, Jack Smith, Tennessee Williams, Marie Menken, Viva, Susan Bottomly, and Henry Geldzahler.
From 2004-2013, The Waverly Press publisher Dagon James collaborated with Billy Name on a series of prints featuring Name’s personal favorite and best known images. These museum quality, hand pulled serigraphs were produced utilizing environmentally friendly, archival ink and paper. Each print is hand signed by Name and individually numbered ensuring their collectability for generations to come. Name considered these works a bridge between his photography and Warhol’s painting practice and felt that these were the finest representation of his photographs ever produced. These have rarely been exhibited or offered, and we are pleased to make them available to collectors. Our inventory is very limited.
We also have a limited selection of unique, hand signed archival pigment prints available. Please contact us for pricing and availability.
