Gerard Malanga's Secret Cinema Prints

Gerard Malanga’s Secret Cinema Fine Art Print Collection presents a selection of images drawn from his experimental films created between 1964 and 1971. These archival prints offer a rare opportunity to experience individual moments from a cinematic archive that remained largely unseen for decades.

Working closely with Gerard Malanga, The Waverly Press carefully selected images from the original 16mm films documented in the book, Gerard Malanga’s Secret Cinema. Each image represents a unique sequence of frames from Malanga’s films, preserving the cultural figures who defined the creative atmosphere surrounding Andy Warhol’s Factory and the New York underground art scene of the 1960s.

Among the most significant works in this collection are stills from Andy Warhol: Portraits of the Artist as a Young Man, Malanga’s series of seven three-minute film portraits of Andy Warhol created between 1964 and 1965. Together, these seven films form the most intimate cinematic portrait of Warhol during the formative years of his career.

The images in this collection were created from restored film materials uncovered through the research and preservation process behind Gerard Malanga’s Secret Cinema. By transforming individual frames from these rare films into fine art prints, the collection provides a new way to experience Malanga’s cinematic vision and the historic world he documented.

Printed as limited editions and authorized by Gerard Malanga, each work represents both a historical document and a continuation of Malanga’s lifelong exploration of creative expression. These prints preserve a moment when artists, poets, musicians, filmmakers, and performers came together to redefine the boundaries of contemporary culture.

Each 11 × 14-inch, museum-quality archival pigment print is individually numbered and hand-signed on the reverse by Gerard Malanga.
